Published May 2023 | Updated Feb. 2025

Corfu is one of my favorite places in the entire world! It’s a charming small island with an abundance of things to do and lovely places to stay.

Deciding where to stay in Corfu can be challenging if you’re visiting for the first time. Despite being small, there are many different areas throughout Corfu that each have their own, unique features.

Corfu is pretty affordable and you can likely get a nice place to stay for a deal — especially if you are splitting one accommodation between multiple people or visiting during the shoulder seasons!

After multiple visits to this beautiful island, I’ve found the best areas to stay in Corfu, what makes each one special, and the best things to do in each area!

Where is Corfu?

Corfu is a small, Greek island in the Ionian Sea between Albania and Italy. The water is warm, the sun is hot, and the island is lush with greenery due to the amount of rain it gets in the wet seasons.

While there are only a few smaller islands around it to jump to, Corfu itself has so much to offer you won’t want or need to island hop!

Use the map below to search for more places to stay in Corfu. Be sure you are booking accommodations in Corfu and not one of the nearby countries, such as Albania.

Where To Stay in Corfu

There really is not a bad place to stay on the gorgeous island of Corfu! Across our trips, we’ve stayed in three different towns and apartments and loved them all, but one stood out as the best area to stay in Corfu (spoiler: it’s Dassia!).

We also have explored the majority of the island and have found some lovely places to stay in Corfu in other regions.

Corfu Town

The main area in Corfu is called Corfu Town, which is on the east side closer to the airport.

Corfu Town is a great area to stay in Corfu if you do not plan to rent a car. There are plenty of things to do in Corfu Town, it has tons of restaurants, it’s not far from the airport, and it will be easier to get a taxi or bus from here to other areas on the island.

This is where you’ll see the greatest influence from the Venetians who once lived on Corfu! The entire town looks just like Italy with small, cobblestone streets between the warm yellow and orange buildings.

The only downside of staying in Corfu Town is the traffic. It can get pretty congested and getting through town to reach your accommodation after a day of exploring can be tricky, depending on which area of town you stay.

There are not any large hotels here, but you will find gorgeous bed & breakfasts and apartments.

I highly recommend booking an apartment for a more at-home feel and more privacy. We booked a stunning apartment with incredible sea views, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a full kitchen — we loved it.

The seaside apartment is the best place I’ve stayed in Corfu and I would 100% stay here again! I actually tried to book it again for a second trip to Corfu and it wasn’t available!

Things To Do in Corfu Town

  • Old Venetian Fortress

  • New Venetian Fortress

  • Downtown shops

Recommended: Take a walking tour of Corfu Town that includes a traditional Corfu lunch, visits to historic areas like the Old Fortress, and a food tasting!

Dassia

Dassia is a smaller area just north of Corfu Town. We stayed here in a lofted cottage for the majority of our first trip to Corfu and enjoyed the quieter, more secluded feel compared to Corfu Town (though it’s just 10 minutes away!).

The restaurants in this area are unbeatable! Every single meal was 10/10 delicious. It is a 5-minute walk to the main street where most restaurants are and a 5-minute walk in the other direction to reach a small, local beach.

There are not many things to do in Dassia itself, but there are some nice beaches, and did I mention the AMAZING restaurants?!

Dassia, in my opinion, is the best place to stay in Corfu.

You won’t have to deal with the Corfu Town traffic to reach other areas of the island and it’s a nice central location for exploring all of Corfu! We could easily visit all the areas we wanted to visit most: Corfu Town, Paleokastritsa (west side), and Sidari (northwest).

Where To Stay in Dassia

The lovely cottage we stayed in is private and has a backyard with a pool just for the people staying in the cottage, a kitchen, a loft bedroom, and a cozy living area. There is an A/C unit as well — it would have been miserable in summer without it.

The cottage also has a washer outside and racks to dry clothes, which is great if you want to pack light and wash clothes to re-wear. It’s the perfect spot for couples!

Though the cottage is lovely, there are other cool places to stay in Dassia.

Things To Do in Dassia

  • Eat out for every meal if you can!

  • Dassia Beach

  • Agios Nikolaos Beach

Anemomylos

The small town of Anemomylos is just south of Corfu Town and right next to the airport. It’s a very peaceful, quiet area of Corfu with a windmill, lovely restaurants, and a central park parallel to the coast lined with restaurants and outdoor seating.

We stayed here during our second trip to Corfu and enjoyed the area! We were familiar with Anemomylos from our first trip and knew we liked the area.

The accommodations here are mostly apartments and the one we stayed in was gorgeous with the best sea views from a giant balcony.

The biggest downside of staying in Anemomylos is having to drive through Corfu Town to reach the rest of the island. Since we like to travel to all parts of the island, staying in Anemomylos was a bit inconvenient.

It’s a couple of miles south of Corfu Town and you can walk to Corfu Town if you want to get some steps in!

Things To Do in Anemomylos

  • Swim at the windmill

  • Walk through the coastal park

Ipsos

North of Dassia is the coastal town of Ipsos! It has great restaurants, a few beaches, and a bit more nightlife than other towns in this region of Corfu.

The beaches here are populated with mostly locals and are relaxing and quiet during the day, despite the lively nightlife Ipsos is known for. Ipsos has a long, continuous stretch of beach lined with shops and restaurants.

Ipsos is another area that is central and a nice base to explore the rest of the island from! You can easily reach the north coast or west coast of Corfu from Ipsos or drive about 20 minutes south to reach Corfu Town.

Things To Do in Ipsos

  • Visit the bars, pubs, and nightclubs

  • Relax on a beach chair

  • Explore the local shops

Barbati

This beach town has one of my favorite places on the island: Coffee Lovers! Their food is incredible and very reminiscent of a nice Californian brunch. The owners are two of the nicest people — tell them Kessler sent you if you visit!

Barbati itself has a nice 4-star hotel with apartments and private pool villas right across the street from Coffee Lovers.

Kassiopi

Continuing north up the east coast you’ll reach Kassiopi. Kassiopi is a small fishing village that has gorgeous turquoise-aqua water.

Kassiopi Castle is the main attraction here, which you can reach via an easy hike through olive groves. There is also plenty of coastline with beaches since Kassiopi is on an area of Corfu that juts out and has beaches facing west, north, and east.

Things To Do in Kassiopi

  • Engagement Bay

  • Kassiopi Castle

  • Bataria Beach

  • Kanoni Beach

Sidari

Over on the northwest side of the island is the small town of Sidari. While the village itself is quaint with some shops and restaurants, if you walk out to the coast you’ll reach some of the most famous spots in Corfu.

There are a few hotels, beach clubs, and bars in this area. It can be a bit touristy here since there are major attractions in the area, like Canal d’Amour.

Where To Stay in Sidari

Things To Do in Sidari

  • Cape Drastis

  • Canal d’Amour

  • d’Amour Beach (next to the canal)

Recommended: Take a stand-up paddleboard tour through the caves of Canal d’Amour and around the gorgeous Corfu coastline.

Paleokastritsa

South of Sidari on the west side is the well-known town of Paleokastritsa. There are some larger hotels in this area and it is one of the more touristy areas in Corfu (for good reason!).

Paleokastritsa has gorgeous beaches and cliffsides, with many hills and more elevation than other parts of the island.

Where To Stay in Paleokastritsa

Things To Do in Paleokastritsa

  • La Grotta Beach Bar

  • Agios Spiridon Beach

  • Corfu Aquarium

Recommended: Book a private tour on a mini bus that takes you throughout the island, including stops at the Achilleon and Paleokastritsa Beach, as well as a scenic drive along the west coast of Corfu.

Kavos

If you’re looking for a lively nightlife scene, Kavos is where you want to be! This area is popular with younger English tourists who are looking to party.

Kavos is the southernmost village of Corfu and is much farther away from the other areas in this guide.

This area caters mostly to English tourists, so you won’t find as much local food or culture here. It’s ideal for people who are looking for a beachy party holiday and don’t plan to explore the rest of the island.

I’m a travel blogger and photographer from the San Francisco Bay Area, splitting my time between there and Santa Barbara. I love to share comprehensive guides about my travels, with a focus on all things sun, sea, and beach! When I’m not exploring new destinations (probably somewhere by the coast), I love being home with my husband and two fluffy kitties, Captain Jack and Sparrow.
