Where to Get Travel Clothes for Women (+Packing Tips)

Picking out clothes for a trip can be fun, but it’s also overwhelming and sometimes frustrating when you don’t have the clothes you want for the destination or don’t know where to get travel clothes.

I try to avoid buying new clothing often, and if I want something new (to me) for a trip, I’ll go to Depop first and thrift store second. If I still can’t find what I’m looking for, I turn to my favorite brands listed below.

When I do buy something new, I follow the 30x rule: if you don’t think you’ll wear something at least 30 times, you shouldn’t buy it. I started following this rule when I learned that wearing something at least 30 times can help offset the environmental impact that comes with buying something new.

There are a few requirements I have when picking out clothes for a trip:

  1. Must be comfortable.

  2. Must be able to mix and match tops/bottoms.

  3. Must look good in the destination I’m going to (for photos of course!).

These requirements may be completely different than yours, but the first two are essential for lightweight packing and easy outfits for anyone traveling.

If you’re struggling to find places to get cute, comfortable, and high-quality clothes that are perfect for travel, I’m sharing all my favorite places to get travel clothes for women in hopes you’ll find your go-to brand for all your future travels.

Where to Get Travel Clothes for Women (+Packing Tips)

Best Brands For Cute and Comfortable Travel Outfits

Fortunate One

Some of my all-time favorite travel dresses are from Fortunate One. They carry a range of different brands and have gorgeous dresses. The white dress I wore in Corfu is from here; years later, they still sell it!

They don’t rotate out dresses often like other fast fashion sites, but they still get new styles often. Their clothes are great quality and have lasted me a long time! With timeless styles that don’t just chase the trends, their pieces are ones you will want to re-wear over and over.

Abercrombie

Abercrombie has had a revival and is no longer the overpriced, skin-tight teen clothes that we knew in the 2010s. It is now upscale, has high-quality basics, and mostly neutrals.

On my trip to Malta, I wore exclusively Abercrombie by accident — it was just the best for packing carry-on only since it was all mix-and-matchable.

Despite forgetting about this brand for years (over a decade), it has now become my favorite brand for both daily wear and travel! Their clothing is such high quality and has a classic look that won’t go out of style, it will be easy to wear the clothing I have from them for years.

Abercrombie also has an entire collection for travelers!

Reformation

For a sustainable brand with nice dresses, Reformation is my go-to. They have flattering dresses made from recycled materials that come in a variety of colors from solid neutrals to expressive and loud prints.

Reformation is the best place to get dresses for your spring or summer travels. It would be the perfect place to shop for a Mediterranean trip!

My outfit: Juliette Dress (comes in more colors/prints!)

Sabo Skirt

I love a good set because it’s easy to look like you made an effort to create an outfit without actually trying. Sabo Skirt has a great selection of sets and dresses that come out in collections.

Keep an eye out on their site as you shop for a trip! They typically have a small range of colors or patterns, but change them out somewhat often as new collections are released.

They’re a great place to shop if you’re heading somewhere coastal! With flowy linen sets, light-colored dresses and skirts, and travel-focused collections, their clothes would be great for a dreamy island vacation.

Sabo Skirt is an Australian brand, so their seasonal collections are based on the Southern Hemisphere seasons, meaning summer collections come out when it’s winter for us in the Northern Hemisphere.

Vitamin A Swim

Sustainable swimwear is my favorite, and sustainable, high-quality swimwear is even better! Vitamin A has buttery soft swimwear that fits like a glove and is extremely comfortable to wear. You won’t be bothered by any seams due to the way their swimwear is sewn.

It’s on the more expensive side, but I guarantee you won’t find better quality for a lower price. Target has nothing on Vitamin A!

They also have sustainable clothing, like flowy swim cover-ups, skirts, dresses, and sets.

Beyond Yoga

If you’re planning to do any exercise, hiking, or excessive walking on a trip, Beyond Yoga is my top choice for comfortable athletic wear. They have buttery soft tops, shorts, and leggings that are stretchier than any other yoga wear I’ve worn.

I wore Beyond Yoga throughout my Highway 395 road trip and was incredibly comfortable the whole time (plus it looked really cute in photos!).

My outfits: Crop Tank (comes in TONS of colors) | Biker Short | High-waisted legging

REI Co-Op

Outdoorsy trips require a visit to REI! They have a huge selection of hiking clothing in addition to their outdoor gear.

Their REI Co-op brand is a great option for affordable hiking clothes that are still budget-friendly. They also carry other brands like Beyond Yoga and Vuori but usually have a more limited selection than the brands’ sites.

Aerie

The most affordable brand on this list is Aerie. While the clothes aren’t as high quality or upscale as Abercrombie or Reformation, they still have cute clothes that are great for trips and they cost way less!

I especially like their leggings and have worn the pairs I own at least 100x.

Showpo

I love fun and colorful clothes and Showpo has the best selection of them! A pair of my favorite pants EVER are from here and I get compliments every time I wear them.

They also have dresses, tops, and swimwear that are as cute and colorful as their pants. You’ll also find solid colors and neutrals, but I think Showpo excels at prints and colors.

Free People

You likely know this brand already, but Free People is where I go for more unique pieces that I wouldn’t find anywhere else.

My “famous” travel dress is from Free People and comes in many colors! I got mine in 2017 and they still sell it, although not in the same color. It’s a heavy dress, but photographs SO well (which is important to me!).

They also have unique and stylish tops and tons of other dresses too. They update their site with new items often, so keep checking back if nothing catches your eye the first time.

My outfits: Lille Maxi Dress

Madewell

I love Madewell’s jackets! Although they are known for their jeans, which are also great, Madewell has some amazing coats and jackets.

My maroon corduroy jacket is from Madewell and it’s my favorite jacket to pack for trips! It’s comfortable, has pockets, and can be thrown over almost anything. Seriously, I’ve worn it with leggings, jeans, and dresses!

They also have lovely dresses, pants, skirts, and sweaters that are great for all seasons and everyday wear.

Best Travel Shoes

My top recommendation for shoes is the New Balance Trail Runners! They’re insanely comfortable and have tons of cushion in the platform. They also have grips on the bottom, which make it easy to walk across all terrains.

Packing Tips to Avoid Overpacking

Pack With a Color Palette

This is my BEST tip for traveling light! I always pack with a specific color palette, depending on where I am going.

Examples:

  • For Greece, I packed bright whites and deep, Mediterranean blues.

  • For Malta, I packed olive green, beige/white, and rust-color clothes.

  • For Palm Springs, I packed bright and fun colors like hot pinks and yellows.

Packing with a color palette allows me to mix and match all my tops and bottoms so with just three tops and three bottoms, I can make nine different outfits!

Use Packing Cubes

I know everyone says “Use packing cubes!!” but it’s truly because they are so great! Not only do they help compress your clothing so it fits into your carry-on, but they’re also amazing for organizing your outfits by day or by type (e.g., tops, bottoms, socks/underwear).

I prefer packing cubes that are mesh on top so I can see what’s in them without having to open them up. My other little trick is to write what is in the cube on a post-it or piece of paper (e.g., Malta Tops, London Pants, Socks/Underwear/Swim) and put it on top of the clothes before zipping the cube shut.

Choose a Packable Jacket

Packing a jacket that shrinks down to almost nothing is a must for cold destinations or winter travel!

You can find packable jackets almost everywhere (even Amazon!). Mine is a puffer jacket from Abercrombie and it is impressive how small it packs down. Plus, it comes with a little bag to put it into, which helps compress it even more and keep it compressed throughout your travels.
